We Offer Unparalleled Service to Commercial Business

6/1/2022 (Permalink)

A long Hotel hallway with ornate blue carpeting. Six green dehumidifiers are lined throughout. Commercial jobs can be huge undertakings, but we always make sure to first accommodate our client's business needs.

It takes a lot to successfully run any business, but water damage can be particularly devastating to the service industry.  That is why we make sure to go out of our way to accommodate their business needs.

For example, we recently received a job from a local hotel.  Several pipes from their bathroom had burst, leaking water throughout the first two floors.  Multiple hotel rooms were affected including a large, carpeted hallway.  Hotel management was rightly concerned with how our work mitigating the damage would affect their clientele.  Our work would have to close down large sections of the hotel and since the first floor and lobby was also affected by the leak, management decided they couldn’t have us working during normal business hours.

To accommodate, we made the decision work from 10PM to 6AM every day.  This allowed the hotel to still greet and book new customers during the day while giving us the proper amount of time to make sure everything was completely dry.  This is just one example of our commitment to going above and beyond for our commercial clients.

Flooded Church Facility? We Can Help!

Long tiled hallway with many sitting pools of water on the floor. The scope of this job was huge!

We here at SERVPRO pride ourselves on the ability to tackle all types of water loss.  Big or small, we have the experience and expertise to make any disaster “Like it never even happened.”  That includes a recent job we finished at a local Church.

When one of the toilet valves on the second floor busted overnight, water poured through the ceilings and affected more than fifteen rooms on both levels.  From offices to stairwells to even the children’s daycare center, water pooled up everywhere.  In total, we used more than thirty high powered air movers and three refrigerant dehumidifiers to completely dry and remove all of the water.

Water losses of this size don’t happen often, but rest assured, when they do, we are primed and ready to respond as fast as possible.  We certainly have the ability and capacity to help any sized commercial organization.

An office space with brand new hardwood floors installed. Our Construction Team updated the damaged floor tiles with this beautiful hardwood floor!

We pride ourselves on the ability to respond to water disasters of all sizes.  From a small single-family home basement leak to a hotel sprinkler system malfunction affecting multiple floors, we have the expertise and equipment to fully mitigate all water damage.

For example, when a local condominium in-door pool leaked due to a faulty valve, the entire basement floor hallway and offices were flooded.  After being called out to the site, we successfully removed the water and dried the affected areas.  It was apparent, however, that the tile flooring was damaged beyond repair.  Our Construction Team then came in, completely removed all of the tiles, and replaced them with a beautiful hard wood floor.

When all was said and done, we not only made the pool leak “Like it never even happened,” we upgraded the look and feel of the space.  If you have a commercial building in need of water mitigation and construction, we can offer you the same full service!

Commercial Jobs Require Commercial-Sized Equipment

4/13/2022 (Permalink)

The Nikro PS1000, Phoenix FireBird, and Dri-Eas LGR 7000 lined up in a warehouse. Our industrial-grade equipment can handle anything!

Did a pipe burst in your office building causing water damage on multiple floors?  The equipment used for residential mediation just won’t cut it.  That is why we carry a whole suite of heavy duty, industrial-grade machines, powerful enough to tackle the biggest disasters.

One such machine is the Nikro PS1000 HEPA Air Scrubber.  With its uniquely designed filtration system, this air scrubber produces 99.7% absolute clean air, removing airborne contaminants and even odors.  Using between 2.3 and 2.8 amps to run, and weighing 74 lbs, the Nikro PS1000 prevents the spread of nasty mold spores like no other.

Another powerhouse that we use is the Phoenix FireBird Heat Drying System.  Highly flexible, The FireBird operates freestanding or with 12-inch flex duct on the inlet and/or outlet to distribute the heat precisely where we need it.  It’s capable of producing heat at 80°F on its highest setting, completely drying any hidden water moisture.

Last but not least, we have the Dri-Eaz LGR 7000 Dehumidifier.  This state-of-the-art machine precools incoming air before it passes over a cold evaporator coil (20°F to 30°F below the dew point).  The cold coil condenses any water vapor into liquid water that then collects in condensate pump and is removed by an automatic pump-out system.  The Dri-Eaz 7000 is one of the most efficient ways to reduce the moisture level in the air and accelerate the drying process.

With these tools in our tool belt, our commercial clients can rest assured, no matter how big the job, we have them covered!

Winterizing Commercial Buildings

1/12/2022 (Permalink)

Commercial warehouse storing tires with leaking water pooling on the floor and dripping down the walls. Follow these steps to avoid damage from burst pipes like in this photo.

The winter season is upon us.  For those managing either occupied or unoccupied commercial buildings, it can be a scary season.  Frozen pipes bursting and old roofs leaking can cause your business dangerous and expensive damage.  That is why it is always important to think ahead and have a prevention plan.  Here are some tips for keeping your commercial buildings safe from the cold.

Making sure the heating system of your building is working properly may seem like common sense but scheduling periodic professional inspections throughout the year is vital.  Check your rooftop HVAC units, water heaters, and furnaces for cracks and consider replacing furnaces older than 10 years old.  It’s also important to properly shut off your cooling systems when you do switch to heating.

To avoid frozen pipes, make sure to test their freeze stats and valves.  Wrap the ones in unheated areas of the building and take care of any cracks found in exposed pipes

For unoccupied buildings, it’s important to not turn off your thermostat.  Keeping the internal temperature at least 55 degrees will also help avoid your pipes freezing.  Even for buildings that are occupied this winter, it is advised to keep the thermostat relatively low.  Not only does this save your business some money, but it reduces the risk of fire.

Regularly inspecting your building’s insulation is also important.  Make sure to replace any damaged or old insulation to avoid any major heat loss in your building.  Special focus should be paid to roofs and unheated attics.

Speaking of roofs, any holes or torn shingles must be patched to avoid major water leakage from potential melting snow.  Double checking the existing seals for any damage or structural weakness also helps ensure your roof can withstand another winter.

We hope these tips give you some peace of mind.  By no means is this an exhaustive list, but by putting these suggestions into action, you can help prevent costly damage this winter season.

Warning Signs of Mold in a Marlton/Morningside Area Commercial Building

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

Because it isn't visible, mold can be difficult to detect. However, mold can be an especially tricky problem to detect in commercial buildings.

Often times there are rooms or spaces in a commercial building that people don't visit often, and as such it may take longer to detect mold. This is why it is especially important to be sensitive to some of the two early signs of mold in a commercial building.

Warning Sign #1: Smell

Mold has a very musky, even earthy smell, while hard to miss, can easily be dismissed as simply "basement smell". If you detect an unusual and persistent odor in a particular room or section of your commercial building, it is possible you have mold.

Remember, mold isn't always visible and may be growing under carpets, furniture, sinks, cabinets, etc. so the "moldy smell" is you best first early detection signal.

Warning Sign #2: Health Issues

If you or any tenants experience any health effects in addition to the presence of a weird or "moldy" odor, there is a chance there is mold present somewhere in the commercial building. Seek medical attention and consider reaching out to a mold expert, like us here at SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside to address your mold issue.

SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside has been handling mold remediation in the Rose Hill/Fort Hunt area for years and are committed to delivering results quickly and professionally, all while exhibiting the highest quality of customer service.

How to Re-Open Sooner, after a Commercial Building Fire in the Marlton/Morningside

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

Commercial building fires are some of the most devastating work place incidents a business will face. Amongst dozens of other thoughts you will be considering "when can we reopen" will probably be one of your biggest concerns.

The key to getting back to "normal" and reopening is 1. Being prepared before the fire and 2. calling the RIGHT team to deal with the fire damage and restoration done to the commercial building.

Although no one ever "plans" for a fire, there are steps you can take to ensure that in the unfortunate and unlikely event one happens, you and your team will be able to bounce back quickly.

You need a detailed and comprehensive plan for exactly what to do and what to expect after a fire.

The "emergency readiness plan" (that's what we call it here at SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside) should detail out things like, where do you conduct business while you wait for repairs, who do you get to help with the fire damage restoration, where do you store the property that wasn't damaged while repairs are being done, etc.

A plan like this is difficult to develop internally which is why so many companies spend so much more time than necessary trying to get back to normal, and also why you should reach out to a professional in the area who not only specializes in making these kind of plans for companies free of charge, but also has years of experience dealing with fire damages and restoration in the area.

SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside is a team of professionals that does just that!

Give us a call today at (301) 856- 5402 and we'll work with you to create a comprehensive and practical emergency readiness plan to ensure in the event of a fire, flood or storm, you will be able to bounce back quickly and know that you have a competent and experienced team on call to help with any repair or restoration needs.

Top Causes of Commercial Building Water Damage in the Marlton/Morningside Area

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

Contrary to popular belief, water damage isn't only caused by flooding or harsh storms, in fact, there are three non-flooding/storm common causes of water damage in commercial buildings in Marlton/Morningside.

Cause #1 Damaged HVAC system

Damage to a commercial building's HVAC system as a result of wear and tear can lead to water leakage which can in turn cause water damage.

Regular maintenance and cleaning can help prevent this.

Cause #2 Damaged or Leaking Pipes

As is the case with residential buildings, water damage in commercial buildings are often caused by leaking pipes or bad plumbing.

Plumbing is an especially pervasive cause for water damage since pipes are often sensitive to drastic changes in weather and pressure, which can cause them to become damaged or even burst!

Unfortunately if there isn't any apparent plumbing issue, it can be difficult to know if there is plumbing-related water damage.

Cause #3 Leaking Sprinklers

Very similar to leaking pipes, any leaks in a sprinkling system can lead to water damage.

Regular inspection of your sprinkling system can help spot bad leaks and prevent water damage from developing.

Because water damage has so many "tricky" potential causes, it isn't uncommon to have it progress to the point where you'll need a professional water damage restoration company to step in. If that's the case, call SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside at (301) 856-5402!

We've been handling commercial building water damage for years and always work, quickly and professionally, while providing the highest quality of customer service!

Top Causes of Commercial Fires in Marlton/Morningside

6/2/2021 (Permalink)

To the casual observer, the cause of commercial fires may seem a bit mysterious. Many of us consider fires to be a consequence of a residential kitchen mishap, however, there are six ways fires can start in a commercial building.

In this article we'll explore the most common causes of commercial fires AND discuss some helpful hints to prevent them.

Cause #1 Electrical Wiring

Faulty or damaged electrical equipment or equipment plugged in to an improper power source can generate sparks that then start a fire.

Ensure you are using properly tested and functioning electrical equipment to minimize the risk of an electrical fire.

Cause #2 Heaters

It isn't uncommon for employees to keep space heater in their office. Such heaters can catch fire if kept too close to flammable materials.

If you or anyone in your office has a space heater, remind them to be mindful of the materials surrounding their heating unit.

Cause #3 Poor House Keeping

Technically an expansion of the first two causes, if an office space has allowed flammable trash to accumulate near fire hazards like space heaters or electrical equipment, fires tend to happen.

You can minimize the risk of such fires by properly disposing articles of flammable trash into outdoor dumpsters.

Cause #4 Smoking

Smoking is always a fire hazard regardless of the nature of the building it takes place in or near.

If people in your commercial building are smoking, they are increasing the chances of a fire, especially if they do not dispose of their cigarettes/cigars properly!

Cause #5 Friction

Similarly to electrical fires, some machines cause friction or heat up causing a spontaneous fire even in the absence of an electrical spark!

This is best prevented by making sure machines are all being operated properly and undergoing regular and appropriate maintenance.

Cause #6 Cooking Mishaps

Many commercial buildings have kitchens, microwaves, or other cooking based appliances and as such are susceptible to the same fire risks that any residential kitchen is vulnerable to.

Practice safe kitchen conduct and unplug unused appliances to minimize the fire risk in your commercial kitchen!

Commercial fires are not as uncommon as people think! If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having to deal with the aftermath of a fire in your commercial building call SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside at (301) 856-5402.

First Response Actions | SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside

10/16/2019 (Permalink)

hot fire with red flames Fire damage can be very devastating for a business or commercial property. We are the fire and smoke damage restoration experts.

After a disaster, the only thing a business owner likely wants is to clean up the mess and get back to work. However, property damage from a fire or flood could suffer smoke and soot damage, water damage, and mold. Biological hazards from sewage and chemicals in the floodwater runoff make the cleanup a dangerous task.

Professional restoration services can salvage property that others may think are beyond help. The 24-hour services normally arrive on the scene within a couple of hours after a call, but anxious business owners can begin the process with caution.

Inspect for Safety

Stay away from evacuated areas until the authorities allow people to return. Do not enter a building with structural issues. Enter smoke-damaged buildings cautiously because the particulates in the air from the fire can harm respiratory health. Wear gloves, rubber boots, and face masks for protection.

Contact utility services or talk to officials in a flooded area about the safety of entering the building. Consider the building hazardous until utility workers or fire investigators have turned off the electricity and made certain gas utilities do not pose a threat. Wear rubber boots, or chest waders if needed, to ensure protection from any standing water.

Increase the Ventilation

Open the windows for better air circulation to remove smoke odors, but only if the weather is not rainy outside. You don’t want to add more water to the environment. If the utility services decide you can safely turn the power back on, install fans in the windows to direct air out of the building. Do not attempt to use any previously submerged electrical appliances.

Protect the Carpets

Do not walk across soot-stained carpets because this can cause the soot to spread and embed deeper into the carpet fibers. Plastic bags over furniture legs or sheets of aluminum foil under the legs can protect carpets from upholstery fabric dyes that may seep from wet furniture. Do the same for metal legs, as they can leave rust stains behind when wet.

Sort Some Items

Professional restoration services can salvage a surprising amount of property, including electronics, but cannot help when items have melted or burned severely. Remember to photograph and keep an inventory list of anything thrown out so the information is available for an insurance claim.

Remove Smoke Odors

If the fire occurred in a small area, like a break room, the rooms closed off from the event may only need air cleaning to make them usable again. Fill bowls of baking soda and distribute throughout the room to remove some odor. Install air purifiers as well if possible. Turn off HVAC systems to prevent the circulation of smoke and soot through the ventilation ducts.

Avoid Potential Pathogens

You can’t always salvage everything during extensive floods. Many business locations are in urban areas where a flood could cause sewage systems to overflow and expose people to pathogens. The water may also contain toxic chemicals like oil and gas from flooded cars or roads and runoff from industrial buildings.

Do not allow the floodwater to encounter any exposed skin. Do not allow employees to remove their property before the restoration company arrives because of the risk of pathogen exposure. Allow restoration professionals to clean any items deemed salvageable to ensure the belongings are safe to handle.

Business owners want to get back to work after a disaster, but they also need to exercise patience to avoid illness or the unnecessary loss of equipment. At SERVPRO of Marlton/Morningside, we can help. Our restoration technicians will work with you and your insurance company to make the process fast and effective. Contact us today.
